AL ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq – Cake for breakfast following a sunrise run was a deployed U.S. Army support battalion's reward for a year of achievement since being reflagged one year ago from May 11.

The 307th Brigade Support Battalion, a unit of logisticians and sustainment experts supporting 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (Advise and Assist), celebrated the reflagging from "Renegades" to "Black Devils" with a four-mile battalion run around Al Asad Air Base led by the battalion commander, Lt. Col. Andrew Danwin, and brigade commander, Col. Mark Stammer.

The battalion reflagged to complete its shift to modularized Army life by retiring their 15-year-old moniker for one in step with their mother unit, the Devil Brigade, said Danwin.

Since deploying with 1/82 AAB to Al Anbar province, Iraq, the Black Devils have driven the equivalent of one lap around the Earth, delivering nearly a million gallons of fuel and two million gallons of water.

They have delivered 4,000 pallets of bottled water and moved more than a thousand shipping containers.

The battalion's maintenance company have held more than 115 advise-and-assist engagements with their Iraqi counterparts, and offered maintenance training in automotive, welding, generator, heating and cooling, communications, NVG, following systematic maintenance programs and troubleshooting for 13-plus Iraqi units across Anbar.

They have completed 2,178 jobs in 8,348 man-hours and offered wrecker service to every battalion-run convoy.

The battalion medical company has treated more than 2,500 patients and evacuated over 160 since deploying in late August 2009. They have conducted more than 2,000 dental exams and extractions, provided physical therapy to more than 500 Soldiers, and combat stress control to more than 400.

Iraqi army soldiers have been trained on preventive medicine, combat lifesaver skills and how to respond to mass casualties.

In combined medical engagements with Iraqi army doctors and medics, the medics of 307th BSB treated more than 1,200 locals for a variety of illnesses.

Additionally, the headquarters company completed 900 hours of partnership engagements with Iraqi security forces.
