On June 4, 2025, the local German community club Friends of the Marshall Center, in coordination with the Bundeswehr, hosted a special screening of a documentary on the final days of WWII and the immediate post-war situation in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
With the help of local history experts, event facilitators highlighted that 80 years ago, U.S. forces peacefully liberated the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district from the former Nazi regime — without airstrikes or ground battles.
The audience included more than 85 guests from local associations who came to reflect on the events of April 1945 and affirm that the peaceful liberation of southern Bavaria remains a meaningful part of the region’s shared history.
