Last month, the annual Los Angeles Fleet Week took place, attracting more than a quarter of a million people to the Port of Los Angeles during the week leading up to and including Memorial Day weekend. They learned about and connected with the men and women of our United States Sea Services, participated in holiday observations and celebrations, and toured visiting United States Naval and Coast Guard vessels.
A successful Los Angeles Fleet Week doesn’t happen without people behind the scenes like Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center San Diego (NAVSUP FLCSD) Deployable Contracting Officer Ms. Leliza Sarino. Ms. Sarino spent more than a couple of weeks supporting Navy vessels in Los Angeles from right here in San Diego, coordinating over $400,000 worth of contracts for supplies and services to ensure the ships had everything they needed for a successful Fleet Week. Despite the challenges of coordinating the tugboats to guide the ships into the Los Angeles Port, securing security fencing and other security items, and arranging for tents, waste removal, and transportation for the crew, Ms. Sarino worked tirelessly to ensure that everything was available to support the event. Ms. Sarino coordinated all of this behind the scenes while the event was on full display to the local and national media, city and state officials, and corporate partners, so failure was not an option.
