FORT EISENHOWER, Ga. - The U.S. Army Signal Regiment celebrated 19 graduates of the 255N Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) Class 002-25, June 4.
Chief Warrant Officer 5 Willie Newkirk, technical director for the U.S. Army Signal School, emphasized the significance of the role each 255N will have at their gaining unit.
“As new network operations warrant officers, you now bear critical responsibility to secure, optimize, and operationalize the very foundation of the Army’s command and control: the unified network,” Newkirk said. “As you step into your first assignment, lead with confidence, humility, and purpose.”
Serving as guest speaker for the ceremony, Signal Regimental Chief Warrant Officer 5 Chris Westbrook offered graduates a few tips for being successful as members of the Signal Warrant Officer Cohort.
“Remember your primary job is to make your boss successful, because what your boss is trying to do is enable the Warfighter,” Westbrook said. “Be present. If you don’t have a seat at the table, get that seat at the table, and take that seat every single time.”
Presence in training, presence in attitude … presence in everything will contribute to mission success.
“When Chief walks in the room, they need to know that you’re going to solve their problems – that you’re going to be a benefit to their organization,” Westbrook continued. “It’s a feeling of the team’s confidence in you, and the feeling that you have confidence in your team, that is highly important.”
