CAMP DARBY, Italy — Camp Darby hosted its annual Bike Week from April 30 to May 2, 2025. This three-day event featured free bicycle maintenance, a kids’ course and an adult skills test. Cycling experts were also on hand to answer questions and assist with safe route planning. The event was sponsored by MWR, the Wounded Warrior Project, Red Cross, VFW and BOSS or Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers.

“All the community organizations that support our soldiers and families are supporting this event as well,” said Bike Week volunteer Hap Harlow.
Bike Week is a volunteer-led initiative. Organizers travel from Vicenza and volunteer their own resources and time.

“Personally, I have a real passion for cycling; I absolutely love it,” said Bike Week volunteer Dan Pitchford. “It’s a fun way to get around, it’s an effective way to get around and it’s inexpensive as well. You really see the world at your own speed and really get to enjoy it.”

The success of Bike Week reflects the Darby Military Community's enthusiasm for cycling and showed how activity-centered events can bring people together.
