Investing in Your Health and Country | MCAS Cherry Point has various amenities to offer their Marines and Sailors

The Devil Dog Gym is one of the many facilities offered at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point to help keep our Marines and sailors in peak physical condition. Maintaining well-rounded fitness is essential to mission readiness, ensuring that every service member is prepared to answer the nation’s call at a moment’s notice.

Beyond physical preparedness, facilities like the Devil Dog Gym and other training areas across the installation also promote quality of life and foster esprit de corps, reinforcing the strong sense of community, pride, and resilience that define Cherry Point’s warfighting ethos.

The gym is equipped with treadmills, free weights, rig centers, squat racks, cross-trainers, stationary bikes, and locker rooms. The facility is free for active-duty service members, family, and retirees. DoD employees and guests are able to purchase daily, monthly, and annual passes.

“I choose to train at Devil Dog Gym primarily because of its convenience and strategic location right on base,” said U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Ashley Harrod, the sergeant major of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 251, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. Harrod explained that although the current facilities are well-equipped, there is a new facility under construction that will provide updated equipment for service members to stay fit and healthy.

Projected to open late 2026, a modernized 93,000-square-foot performance center is currently under construction. The fitness facility is an investment in the health and wellness of the installation’s personnel and their families. The advanced training space will feature two rigs and 16 functional training stations, as well as a turf area for dynamic movement. Additional amenities include a swimming pool, showers, locker rooms, a mother’s room, and a kitchen designated for cooking demonstrations that promote healthy nutrition.
