LINCOLN, Neb. – The Kentucky National Guard made history on May 4, 2025, capturing its first-ever team championship at the All-Guard Marathon Time Trials, held in conjunction with the 48th annual Lincoln Marathon. More than 180 National Guard runners from 47 states, three U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia competed in the prestigious event, vying for a coveted spot on the elite All-Guard Marathon Team.
The Kentucky team claimed the championship by posting the fastest combined male and female runner times. Six Kentucky Guardsmen earned selection to the All-Guard Marathon Team, including standout performances from U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Chad Terry, Spc. Jackson Rogers, and Pfc. Alex Stark, all under three hours, holding a mile pace between 6:04 and 6:51.
Terry, representing the 307th Support Maintenance Company, finished second overall and first in his age group with a time of 2:39:08. Watson, a first-time marathoner and commander of the 1792d Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, topped her age group with a time of 3:22:27.
The win also brought home “The Cob,” a traveling trophy awarded to the team champion each year. Named for Nebraska’s most iconic crop, the trophy is passed to the victorious state National Guard team following the annual event.
The All-Guard Time Trials have been held in Lincoln annually since 1984, with the exception of 2020 when the race moved to Omaha due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The top 40 male and 15 female runners, as well as the top three male and female runners over age 50, who met the qualifying time standard (3:04:44 this year), were named to the All-Guard Marathon Team. Team members will now represent the National Guard at endurance events across the country.
The All-Guard Marathon and Endurance Teams promote physical fitness, discipline, and esprit de corps among Guard members while supporting recruitment and retention across participating communities.
