JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas – Air Education and Training Command hosted Air Force Day at the Alamo in downtown San Antonio, Texas, April 28, 2025, as part of the military Fiesta celebrations.

The event featured showcases by various AETC units stationed at Joint Base San Antonio, including the Military Working Dogs team, Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, and the U.S. Air Force Band of the West. Also performing was Northside ISD’s John Paul Stevens High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps drill team.

Brigadier General Craig McPike, Air Force Recruiting Service deputy commander, gave the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of the relationship between the military and the San Antonio community.

“The partnership between San Antonio and the military is something truly special,” McPike said. “Your unwavering support fuels our mission every day. You are the heart of Military City, USA, and we are honored to call San Antonio home.”

Tourists and San Antonio residents mingled with Military Fiesta Ambassadors, Fiesta Royalty, and local civic leaders in attendance while watching and participating in the day’s events. Judy Jones, a tourist, was particularly impressed with the John Paul Stevens High School AFJROTC performance.

“I thought they did an excellent job,” Jones said. “Boy, did it take skill and precision.”

Displays and exhibits from the 66th Training Squadron, Detachment 2 survival, evasion, resistance and escape, the 558th Flying Training Wing’s remotely piloted aircraft team, various Special Warfare Training squadrons and the Air Force Accessions Center were posted around the area for those interested in learning more about the Air Force and the opportunities it provides to those who answer the call to serve.

The Fiesta celebration dates back to 1891 and continues as an annual tradition. Fiesta also serves as a tribute to the longstanding bond between the military and the San Antonio community.

The annual Fiesta festival includes more than 100 events over several weeks, including parades, exhibits, and more, drawing millions of participants and generating hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact.
