YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – Airmen from the 374th Civil Engineer Squadron hosted a Joint Operations Plans Examiner Course from Aug. 12-16, 2024, for attendees from all four service branches representing 10 different U.S. Indo-Pacific Command installations.
Members of the squadron hosted the training to ensure that firefighter service members and Department of Defense employees were proficient in fire inspections and thoroughly understood the fundamental principles of conducting inspections and preparing for inspection plan reviews.
“My job as an inspector is to make sure that fires don’t happen, and if they do, they're small enough to easily be controlled,” said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kevin Rios, 374th CES fire inspector. “Knowing and having an understanding of building plans makes my job as an inspector easier.”
The training addressed key areas including fire safety regulations and standards, inspection techniques, studying building plans, fire prevention strategies and plan review and analysis. Each area is aimed at ensuring fire protection plans comply with safety standards and code requirements among each branch of the U.S. military across the Pacific while also bolstering efficient risk management.
“The purpose of this training is to establish a solid foundation for conducting inspections and preparing for inspection plan reviews,” said U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Martin Krist, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. “This training is incredibly valuable to me as it helps integrate everything I've learned thus far.”
