SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii. – U.S. Army Soldiers from the the 25th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade (DIVARTY) conducted a three mile run to bring attention to Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM), April 4, 2024. This event was held to bring awareness to resources and information for the Sexual Harassment/ Assault Response and Preventions program (SHARP).

A formation comprising of Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 125th Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Battalion, prepared for the run while the DIVARTY command team prepared to sign a proclamation to the (SHARP) mission.

“Signing the proclamation publically and vocally reaffirms our leaders’ commitment to preventing these actions,” said Col. Joseph Katz, DIVARTY commander. “This ensures everyone in our formation is safe and treated with dignity and respect. These are part of our Army Values and we want to loudly and proudly say we support them.”

This is an opportunity for the Soldiers and leadership to see the organization's program, and understand the resources available to them. The DIVARTY SHARP representatives were ready for the Soldiers to return to provide Soldiers with more information about the importance of SHARP and SAAPM.

“It’s about awareness and letting the people have the information ready for them,” said Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Ryan, 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery Regiment Diviarty Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) and Victim Advocate. “It lets people know that they don’t have to be afraid - that if something does occur - then they have the proper tools and they’re better prepared.”

“If you are a leader, you need to know your Soldiers. You do that by being involved in their lives, knowing how they’re doing, showing that you care about their development and well-being. When people are valued and cared for, we build trust across the formation,” said Katz. “When we care about each other, we prevent harassment and assault from entering our ranks and hurting our teammates.”

“When we come together and do these runs, we’re thinking about the friends and family that we’re supporting," said Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Daniels, the 25th Infantry Division Artillery SARC. “I’m right there with you. In turn, you can talk to me, and I’m gonna hear you, I’m gonna see you because this is important.”

Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention month is recognized by both the civilian and military community. SAAPM is focused on creating an appropriate culture to eliminate sexual assault and by requiring a personal commitment from every service member.
