    U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility Japan RMC (SRF-JRMC)

    YOKOSUKA, Japan –
    U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC) welcomed 2024 at their annual command New Year Ceremony January 19 on board Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel and Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition, the Honorable Nickolas Guertin joined SRF-JRMC Commanding Officer Capt. Zaldy Valenzuela on stage to offer their remarks and reflections to the command.
    Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Japan Rear Adm. Carl Lahti; Deputy Director General, Project Management, Naval Systems Research Center, Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency, Rear Adm. Touri Sasaki; Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force 2nd Service School Superintendent, Rear Adm. Atsushi Minami; and Mr. Michio Ito of the Yokosuka Defense Office also attended the celebratory ceremony.
    Before the ceremony, Mr. Guertin toured SRF-JRMC, witnessing firsthand the collaborative effort between U.S. Navy Sailors, civilians, and Japanese nationals.
    “I had the opportunity to tour the impressive facilities at SRF and interact with the dedicated workforce here,” Mr. Guertin said in his New Year speech. “I would like to laud SRF for your focus on positive relationships with Japanese industry.”
    After their remarks, Ambassador Emanuel and Mr. Guertin joined Capt. Valenzuela in recognizing SRF-JRMC’s Sailors and Civilian of the Year, and to present safety awards to selected shops.
    For FY 2023, Navy Diver Second Class Tyler Nesbit, stationed at SRF-JRMC Detachment Sasebo, was awarded Junior Sailor of the Year, while Navy Diver First Class Blake Martinez was awarded Senior Sailor of the Year.
    “The New Year Ceremony was a significant event where Ambassador Emanuel and Mr. Guertin participated as honored guests,” said SRF-JRMC Executive Officer, Cmdr. Art Palalay. “Their presence emphasized the commitment to strengthening ties with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and Japan Maritime Industry.”
    Ambassador Emanuel assumed office in March 2022. Mr. Guertin began serving as Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition in December 2023.
