PATRICK SPACE FORCE BASE, Fla. –Reflecting a modern approach to military wellness, the U.S. Space Force has introduced Guardian Resilience Teams in support of the Holistic Health Approach consisting of Performance Health Optimization and education.

These teams embody a shift toward a more integrated wellness model, prioritizing the mental, physical, and emotional resiliency of service members which is critical in high-stress, high-stakes environments like space launch operations.

Currently, the GRTs are composed of a holistic health integrator, physical therapist, certified strength and conditioning specialist, and a licensed mental health provider.

"My role centers around coordinating a comprehensive wellness approach that addresses the unique needs of each Guardian," said Mark Brennan, Space Launch Delta 45 GRT holistic health integrator. "This involves not just guiding physical fitness programs, but also ensuring that aspects such as nutrition, mental well-being, and stress management are integrated into our health strategies.”

Mark emphasized his role as a supportive and approachable resource, explaining that he encourages Guardians to simply call him Mark; not Mr. Brennan or sir.

“Mark opened my eyes to different ways to manage stress as well as the large variety of services the GRT offers,” said U.S. Space Force Tech. Sgt. Molly Meyer, 645th Cyberspace Squadron non-commissioned officer in charge of standards and evaluation. “He left us feeling comfortable knowing that we can approach him with any of our health issues or questions that come up.”

While Mark was the first member of the GRT at SLD 45, the team has recently welcomed a physical therapist to join them.

Emphasizing education, the GRT focuses on building skills that enhance positive behaviors and protective factors throughout a Guardian's career. This includes leveraging professional military education systems to cultivate a well-informed and health-conscious force.

“After Mark spoke with our unit, I felt inspired to prioritize healthy habits and positive behaviors,” said USSF 2nd Lt. Natalie Nicks, 645th Cyberspace Squadron cyber crew commander. “Knowing that the GRT is there to support me makes me feel more confident in achieving these goals.”

As the Space Force continues to evolve, the GRT stands as a commitment to the health and vitality of its personnel.

"Integrating the GRTs is a key step towards building a healthier, more resilient force,” said Brennan. “As we move forward, the Space Force remains committed to the continuous evolution of our health initiatives, ensuring our Guardians are equipped not only for today's challenges but for the future.”

By addressing the comprehensive needs of Guardians, the GRT ensures that they are not only mission-ready but also equipped to thrive in both their professional and personal lives.
