BARNES AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Massachusetts – The 104th Medical Group conducted their annual periodic health assessment “PHAst Track” March 14-17, 2024. The PHA included dental exams, immunizations, audiograms, blood draws for lab work, and an overall assessment of each member’s overall health and well-being.

The PHAst track is designed to be a more efficient way to ensure unit readiness and saves Airmen valuable time by enabling them to focus on their duties and responsibilities while also maintaining their deployment status. Despite seeing nearly 700 active and Drill-Status Guardsmen over the course of four days, the 104MDG were able to focus on each individual and provide detailed care for each member’s specific needs.

“Here at 104th, our mission is to ensure that all of our members are mission ready, and that means being ready to deploy at any given time, and to any given place,” said Senior Airmen Tenzin Dakar, 104MDG airspace medical technician. “Accomplishing the PHAst Track in one drill allows us as the medical group and the wing to have time for the rest of the year to focus on our own training, skills, TDY’s and our contingent operations.”

Dakar was able to effectively administer over 80 immunizations at the walk-in immunization clinic over the course of the weekend in efforts to “green up” member’s immunization records.

Another key assessment that took place during the PHAst Track was the fitting and quality assurance testing of over 70 respirator masks, which were conducted by 1st Lieutenant Ge Zhu, 104MDG bioenvironmental engineering officer.

“Primarily these tests are for firefighters, so equipment-wise we want to make sure they are ready to go,” said Zhu. “Our main focus is making sure everything is up to date, and that they are safe, well protected and ready to go to execute the mission.”

The proven success and positive impact that the PHAst Track process has had at Barnes Air National Guard Base will continue into the future as the 104th FW remains mission ready and able to respond at a moment's notice anytime, anywhere.
