Members of the U.S. Army's 21st Brigade Engineering Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, the Romanian Army's 341st Infantry Battalion, and the Moldovan Army's 31st Infantry Battalion collaborated to conduct Exercise Justice Eagle, a trilateral exercise, at a training area in Romania March 14, 2024.

The primary objective of this exercise was to demonstrate and improve coordinated efforts in developing battle engagement strategies. Such collaborative endeavors foster mutual understanding and operational synergy among allied forces.

This training exercise successfully showcased the U.S. Army's and partner nations' interoperability, and their ability to develop a battle engagement area alongside mobile assault elements.

Capt. Anna Rothenberger, the commander of Bravo Company, 21st BEB, expressed her pride in her Soldiers' ability to work with foreign partners in this training event.

“Today, we integrated with Romania and Moldova to simulate developing an engagement area and setting up a defensive shield, which shifted into a counterattack once the enemy retrograded,” said Rothenberger. “I am so proud of how my company and our partner nations integrated seamlessly and executed the mission."

Sgt. Daniel Prendergast, a unit chemical noncommissioned officer assigned to Bravo Company, 21st BEB, experienced working with foreign partners directly during Justice Eagle and fired a foreign weapon for the first time.

"We were afforded the opportunity to work with the Romanians and Moldovans and develop cohesion by going through different platoon exercises with them, and I was personally able to shoot the RPG-7 anti-tank propelled grenade rocket launcher,'" said Prendergast. "It's very interesting, and I think it's very helpful to see how foreign militaries operate and how we can collectively work upon the same goal together.”

The presence of rotational units in the Baltic and Black Sea Regions demonstrates the V Corps’ unwavering commitment to NATO for collective defense and regional security. Our infantry and armored capability and capacity enables us to conduct multinational exercises with allies and partners across the European continent.
