As the year came to a close, many cherish moments with loved ones, relishing the joy of togetherness throughout the year. During this time of the year, the number of donors decreases due to seasonal illness and sometimes difficult weather, and maintaining the blood supply can be a notably demanding pursuit.
During this season, the Armed Services Blood Program Pentagon Blood Donor Center has organizations scheduling blood drives and assisting with donations. One such organization, ASEZ WAO (Save the Earth from A to Z, We Are One Family), scheduled their blood drive to assist in adding to the needed supply.
ASEZ WAO is an international young adult worker volunteer group. These young adult workers practice love and volunteer service in their workplaces and communities. and furthermore, they actively participate in pertinent global issues with a sense of ownership. ASEZ stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z,” WAO stands for “We Are One Family.” Put together, ASEZ WAO means “Let us save the earth from the beginning to the end as one family.
The drive was conducted at the Pentagon right before the end of the year. Donors scheduled their donation appointment online at www.militarydonor.com before the drive, and many brought a plus one just in case a member was not eligible to donate.
The ASEZ WAO volunteers promoted the Armed Services Blood Program and encouraged others to donate blood or platelets, even as they were sitting in the phlebotomy chair donating.
The blood drive had a steady flow of donors from ASEZ WAO while also accommodating local walk-in donors; some donors that were passing by the drive. The drive had several blood donors from their first blood drive returning here back in July as well.
The donors were motivated and very encouraging for the event. The blood drive had 29 donors that signed up for donating; resulting in the collection of 24 whole blood units, which can positively impact up to 74 lives. The plus one was a good concept; they donated blood if the person was not eligible and/or assisted in the refreshments area for the blood drive.
ASEZ WAO volunteers emphasized how inspired they are to continue joining in community service in this way to support our military service members as well as Pentagon support staff and bases throughout the DMV.
Now is the time to encourage your organization to donate throughout the year with the ASBP to support and maintain the ASBP mission; provide quality blood products and support to military operations worldwide. Donations make an immediate impact to the military community in need globally.

About the Armed Services Blood Program
Since 1962, the Armed Services Blood Program has been the official blood program of the United States military. Our mission is to provide quality blood products and support to military health care operations worldwide; from the battlefield to the local hospital, whenever and wherever needed. The ASBP collects, processes, stores, transports, and distributes blood products to service members, their families, retirees and veterans in peace and war. In an ASBP Enterprise view – Military Health Affairs, Defense Health Agency, Service Blood Programs and Combatant Commands – we operate under common goals, metrics, procedures, and work together to shape the future.
The ASBP is one of four organizations tasked with providing a safe blood supply to the Nation. Our program also works closely with our civilian counterparts in times of need to maximize the availability of this national treasure.
