NAVAL AIR STATION SIGONELLA, Italy (Feb. 12, 2024) - Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Sigonella Adult Sports Coordinator Angelina Gott has been selected to coach the All-Navy Wrestling Team during the Armed Forces Sports Wrestling Championship in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Feb. 29-March 4, 2024.

“When faced with adversity, I pride myself on being able to adapt and overcome; I’m hoping I can bring that to the team,” said Gott. “Wrestling is a mental game. Your physical strength can only take you so far until that mental toughness kicks in. I hope I can inspire my team to overcome adversity.”

Gott traveled to Washington to begin training, Jan. 29. After several weeks of training, she will travel with her team to Colorado Springs for more training, prior to the start of the Armed Forces Sports Wrestling Championship.

Gott is from Highland Park, Illinois, and was granted an athletic scholarship to Lindenwood University in Missouri to wrestle. She has ten years of wrestling experience and previously served as assistant coach for a women’s wrestling team. Gott said this will be a new, but welcome challenge and she’s excited to go back to the sport that was her life for ten years.

While Gott has been able to pursue a career in her field of study through MWR, she never thought her passion for wrestling would lead her to become the All-Navy Wrestling coach.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity... and I hope I make everyone proud,” said Gott.

In her daily work as the MWR adult sports coordinator, Gott organizes adult sports teams and Captain’s Cup competitions at Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella, Italy.

Prior to her arrival in Italy in December 2022, Gott and her husband, a Sailor assigned to NAS Sigonella, were stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, where she began her career with MWR.

"We are extremely proud of Angelina and the work she has put into this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help coach the All-Navy Wrestling Team,” said Tom Kubalewski, acting MWR program manager, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central. “Since she has joined the Sigonella MWR team, she has continued to impress and we know she is going to use this role to further her development as a recreation professional."

Gott said she’s excited for the new challenge MWR and the Navy have been able to provide for her and her family, and she hopes to make her Sigonella family proud. “Go Sports!”

Naval Air Station Sigonella provides consolidated operational, command and control, administrative, logistical and advanced logistical support to U.S. and other NATO forces. The installation’s strategic location enables U.S., allied, and partner nation forces to deploy and respond as required, ensuring security and stability in Europe, Africa and Central Command.
