The Honorable Celeste Wallander, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs visits the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84). Accompanying the Honorable Celeste Wallander is Capt. Teague Suarez, commanding officer of NAVSTA Rota, and Capt. Mark Dennison, senior defense official/defense attachè, and colleagues. Cmdr. Richard Slye, commanding officer of the BULKELEY, provides a tour of BULKELEY's unique design and warfighting capabilities. The tour includes visits to the BULKELEY's bridge, brow, combat information center and flight deck. At the conclusion of the tour, the Honorable Celeste Wallander and her team had lunch in the wardroom with food made by BULKELEY's culinary specialists.
"It was an honor to be aboard the USS Bulkeley and meet the men and women serving our country at Naval Base, Rota," said The Honorable Celeste Wallander. "The work they do is vital to our national interests and contributes to international peace and security. I am grateful for our close partnership with the Kingdom of Spain that makes this mission possible."
The USS Bulkeley is on a routine deployment conducting maritime security operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
