KABUL, Afghanistan - Fifty-seven students recently graduated from the Province District-12 Public Education Center in Kabul, Sunday, Feb. 21.

Among the graduates, 37 received diplomas for sewing, 10 for rug making and 10 for knitting courses.

Ms. Huma Nuristani, Ministry of Education executive, Brig. Gen. Levent Colak, Regional Command-Capital commander, Sait Timur Şah Tahavur, mayor of PD-12, along with executives of the PD-12 Public Education Center participated in the graduation ceremony.

Turkish CIMIC (Civil-Military Co-operation) teams provide materials, furnish instructors and provide money to teachers for their efforts in the courses. The restoration of the interior and exterior of the Public Education Center will be supported by Turkish CIMIC teams in the near future.

At the end of every year the most successful 50 students are chosen to take a 15-day Turkish Culture Tour in Turkey with all expenses paid for by the Regional Command-Capital. Students who have graduated from these courses are provided jobs with Turkish troops that serve in Afghanistan or Turkish companies located in Afghanistan.

"Our Turkish brothers continue to provide education support to increase knowledge and the level of information for our youngsters; which could help annihilate poverty for the Afghan people," said Ms. Nuristani, Ministry of Education executive.

The mayor of PD-12 said, "I want to thank the Turkish soldiers for caring about the Afghan youth, who are our future. PD-12 has extensive population and there is no other course like this. We want to increase these kinds of courses."

The PD-12 Public Education Center, opened in 2007, has trained and graduated a total of 188 students in sewing, knitting, computers, and rug making. Currently there are 116 students trained in other courses. Due to additional requests, a Turkish language course will start at the end of the year.

The crafts made by the students' of rug making, sewing, and knitting courses are sold at the Camp Dogan Afghan Market every Friday so the students can earn some money.
