Heavy metal band Attackhead rocked the Excursions Enlisted Club during a free live concert Feb. 13 from 8 to 10 p.m.

Mark Chapman, the lead singer for Attackhead, said service members sacrifice a lot for their country and his band tries to pay them back any way they can.

"We are willing to go out and play anywhere for the military as long as they can supply the power for our equipment," he said.

As the Orange County, Calif., band played into the night, patrons and passersby were drawn in by the sounds of 80's stadium metal reminiscent of Metallica.

"I was walking by and heard the music playing so I asked my buddies what was going on, and when I heard that it was a live concert, I was there," said Pfc. Camden Kitchens, a student with Company B., Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School. "The band was a good choice because most of the Marine Corps likes heavy metal."

Aside from the concert, Attackhead is currently involved in other projects aimed at giving back to the military.

According to the Web site http://www.attackhead.com, during the month of February Attackhead will donate half the profits of every CD sold to the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America Fundraiser, and $1 for every new fan on their Twitter page up to $200. The IAVAF is a nonprofit organization which works to support veterans.

Some patrons researched the band on their Web site prior to attending.

"I looked them up beforehand to find out what they sounded like and figured it was a good way to spend Saturday night," said Pfc. Alex Robles, a student with Co. B., MCCES.

Attendance was somewhat sparse, Chapman said he liked the energy during the concert and the band hopes to come back for another concert later this year.

"In the future though the club should not plan these events on a 72 so they will have more people show up for the shows," Robles said.
