Training for proficiency and
exceeding standards is what the
1135th Route Clearance Company
(RCC) has exemplified over the past
few weeks. The 1135th is diligently
training in the 120-degree weather
and ensuring they are meeting
their Mission Essential Task Lists
(METLs). These tasks have specific
requirements and qualifications that
are assigned as roles for particular
units within the organization under the
Army's doctrine model. METLs help
the units analyze and perfect their
training. It helps the leaders of those
units develop a better plan for their
mission and execution.
Recently, the 1135th Route
Clearance Company (RCC) held a
"Team Truck STX" Competition. This
training exercise included vehicle selfrecovery
operations, proper combat
lifesaving procedures, and buffalo arm
operations. During the vehicle self
recovery operations, Soldiers were
trained on removing a tow bar from
the rear of a vehicle and bringing it
around to the front of it to prepare for
"like-to-like" recovery operations.
Vehicle recovery operations are
always one of the main priorities of
the sustainment plan for any sort
of mission. At any second, minute,
hour, or day, a vehicle can go
down within a flick of a second. To
prepare for unforseen or unexpected
circumstances like this, units like the
1135th RCC will be ready to react to a
recovery mission in real time.
During the Team Truck STX
Competition, Soldiers were also
assessed on their combat lifesaving
skills. No one ever knows when you'll
have to save someone else's life or
treat a casualty in the line of duty.
Treating a casualty is not as simple
as it may sound. Some may think
you just need a first-aid kit and litter.
However, there are more tactics,
techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
for treating a casualty, especially
during an operation or mission.
Soldiers of the 1135th RCC were also
graded for accuracy in calling the
9-line MEDEVAC while assessing and
treating two casualties simultaneously.
To top off the event, the 1135th RCC
conducted Buffalo Arm Operations.
The Buffalo is a mine-protected
clearance vehicle that is primarily
used for ordnance disposal and route
clearance. In this particular event of
the competition, Soldiers were graded
for time. The assessment included
picking up an Unexploded Ordnance
(UXO) connected to a pressure plate
while placing it in a 5-gallon bucket
and moving det cord from the top of a
construction cone to another one.
The Team Truck STX Competition
was a special training event for the
1135th RCC to enhance their missionessential
tasks and standards as a
unit. The unit continues to practice
redundancy as Operation Sand Lot
approaches, a joint training exercise
with the 217th Explosive Ordnance
Detachment (EOD).
