Members of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and U.S. Public Health Service are teaming up to provide no-cost health services in southern Missouri and Illinois.
Operation Healthy Delta Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) focuses on assisting underserved communities and gives service members the opportunity to work in a joint environment, said Spc. Trey Ballard, biomedical equipment technician with the 339th Intermediate Care Ward, 88th Readiness Division, Weldon Spring, Missouri.
“It’s really great working with other services because it is something we’re expected to do down-range,” said Ballard, who serves in the U.S. Army Reserve. “If we are put on an assignment and haven’t worked with the other services in the past, we might be less efficient in adjusting to the way we work together, hindering mission success.”
Working in a joint environment allows service members to learn, network and share in positive experiences, said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Natosha Mansker, clinical dentistry flight chief, 86th Dental Squadron, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
“It really brings things together when we actually get to know each other,” said Mansker. “Building that comradery among the sister services is so rewarding.”
With military personnel receiving different training from their individual branches, joint operations require all members to learn from shared experiences with a goal to build a stronger military force.
“The experience that I’ve gained working with other services has taught me that, although we may come from different backgrounds or have different responsibilities in our respective services, we can always learn a lot from each other and those experiences can strengthen us moving forward,” said Ballard.
The IRT mission will continue until June 20, 2023.
