Nate Boyer, advocate for mental health and cofounder of Merging Vets and Players (MVP), held a meet and greet in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, at the Cherry Point Public House, at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, May 18, 2023. MVP is an organization founded to address the challenges veterans face by providing the opportunity to engage with each other. Along with Boyer, various on base organizations spoke with guests, informing them of resources and benefits to improve mental health.
The month of May is dedicated every year to informing and spreading awareness of the challenging impacts of mental health and how to address difficult situations. With various resources available to active-duty service members, there are still some who may feel uncomfortable about how to ask, many are more likely to discuss a physical ailment over a mental one.
Events such as the Nate Boyer meet and greet gave guests the opportunity to see a different perspective from someone who has dealt with the challenges of mental struggles while transitioning after serving in the U.S. Army. Learning more about mental health challenges helps bring a community together, one that creates strength in seeking assistance when in need.
