MANAMA, Bahrain - U.S. and Japanese Naval forces celebrated the 50th anniversary of the U.S.- Japan security treaty with an informal ceremony and cake cutting on Jan. 19, at Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command headquarters.
"I consider the power of the U.S., Japan alliance as tremendous," said Rear Adm. Thomas Cropper, Deputy Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command. "There are many ships in the naval forces. Japan brings friendship, partnership and leadership to the table, and we want to recognize all of those on this occasion," said Cropper.
Jan. 19 marked the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the U.S. and Japan. Signed in Washington D.C. in 1960 and ratified later that year by both nations, the document has served as the foundation for the U.S. Navy's strong working relationship with the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force.
