    Patrol Squadron 30

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 21, 2023) The Boy Scouts of America Troop 424 visited Patrol Squadron Thirty (VP) 30, home of the world’s premier maritime patrol aircraft platforms, January 21.

The public affairs team of Lt. Andy Coen, Lt. Jordan Dungca, and Mass Communications Specialist 1st Class Curtis D. Spencer gave the boys an overview of the mission sets and capabilities of the P-8A Poseidon, P-3C Orion, and the MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

The troop also received a historical overview of the squadron’s achievements which date back to WWII.

The Troop was given firsthand insight into life in the Naval Aviation community. The visit included a static display of a Poseidon aircraft and its systems. Lt. Coen and Lt. Dungca spoke of their deployment experiences and gave insight into the importance of Naval Aviation in light of recent world events.

Inside the VP 30 hangar, the troop toured a P-8A Poseidon aircraft and witnessed a P-3C Orion static display. Onboard, they saw the Navy's premier aviation technology which included sensor systems, weapons systems, and safety equipment. The troop also experienced an interactive demonstration of the AGM-84D Harpoon Anti-Ship Missile, Mk 54 Lightweight Torpedo, and Mk 62 Mine.

As future leaders of America, the Boy Scouts have the opportunity to experience camping, backpacking, and canoeing in the great outdoors. Learning about the Navy’s premier reconnaissance platforms and seeing these capabilities firsthand provided unique insight toward shaping the troop members' future.

“As our world and military evolves, empowering our nation’s youth to create impact is more important than ever,” Lt. Coen said. “At VP 30, the troop received keen insight into how the Navy provides an avenue for applying their love for exploring, surviving in extreme conditions, and traveling the world.”

VP 30’s mission is to provide P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft, P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) specific training to pilots, Naval flight officers, and enlisted aircrew prior to reporting to the Fleet.
