FORT CARSON, Colo. — Fort Carson Soldiers and Family members braved chilly weather to take part in the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) annual 5K Turkey Trot Nov. 5, 2022, at Iron Horse Park.

Soldiers and Family members took off from the starting line just after 9:30 a.m. and by 11 a.m. all the runners were back. This year runners won prizes by finishing closest to the time they posted prior to the race.

In first-place, Edward Thorman, crossed the finish line one second before his predicted time of 26 minutes, 32 seconds.

In second-place, Abygail Guffey, crossed the finish line one second after her predicted time of 35 minutes and 24 seconds.

The third-place finisher, John Velasquez, came back 8 seconds after his predicted time of 28 minutes.

This is even more amazing considering no one knew what the course would be until they arrived at Iron Horse Park. It was a testament to how well the runners knew their capabilities and the determination to cross the finish line within their times.

After the 5K, racers were able to enjoy food trucks and local vendors as a treat for finishing the race.
