The 137th Airlift Squadron promoted its Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL) Senior Master Sgt. Vince Fasano to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, during a ceremony held at the 105th Airlift Wing, Stewart Air National Guard Base, Newburgh, NY, November 3, 2022.

Chief Master Sgt. Vincent Fasano’s role as the 137th Airlift Squadron SEL allows him to support and assist members of the 137th Airlift Squadron in all aspects of their career development, to include education, career enhancement, Airmen and family support, or quality of life programs. His new promotion also allows him to lead from the top, molding members of the 137th Airlift Wing and giving them the tools they need to be successful in their careers.

“Vince, it has been an absolute privilege working for and with you," expressed Lt. Col. Kris Johnson, commander, 137th Airlift Squadron. "Your calming presence, methodical decision-making techniques and naturally leadership intuition continues to make the 137th Squadron one of the best units in the country. However, the work is not done. With this rank will come more responsibility, more scrutiny, and an even bigger desire to ensure things are done right the first time.”

“I look forward to the future, because with individuals like you being promoted, we are only trending up,” Johnson concluded.

“You can read all the leadership books you want and go to all the classes you want,” Fasano said, “but for me, the most fundamental importance of leadership is you have to have genuine interest in your people and you have to have sincerity in your actions. If you don’t have either of them, you’re just going to be a supervisor and you’re never going to be a leader.”

“To the men and woman of the operations group,” Fasano continued, “I’m truly humbled to work alongside you and to work for you. The only thing I ask of you moving forward is three things: Hold me accountable, question my decisions, and don’t be afraid to say no.”

Fasano entered military service in 1995 and served in the regular Army for six years, the Army National Guard for three years and joined the Air National Guard in 2010. Within the Army, Fasano served as a Sentinel for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Fasano has also served as a police officer over a period of 18 years collectively within the New York City Police Department, Town of Warwick Police Department and City of White Plains Police Department. Throughout his military service, Fasano has supported many military operations as well as obtaining numerous awards and decorations. Chief Master Sergeant is the highest enlisted rank a person can achieve in the United States Air Force.
