CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait -- U.S. Army Soldiers with the 369th Sustainment Brigade, New York Army National Guard, honor Spc. Brendan Mackay at a memorial in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, Oct. 26, 2022.
Mackay served with the 133rd Composite Supply Company with former First Sergeant of the company, 1st Sgt. Rebecca Santana, Headquarters and Headquarters Company 369th Sustainment Brigade.
Skillful with generators and able to ensure they ran smoothly, Mackay served his company with integrity and lived a life that is a legacy to those left behind, said Capt. Alex Oommen, a Chaplain with the 369th Special Troops Battalion Unit Ministry Team.
Having a caring friendship with his dog mattered to Mackay, Oommen said. But the pair played rough—Mackay sometimes lost their battles—and he had the scrapes and scars to prove it.
Mackay was proud of being a service member, said Oommen.
“He continued the fight to protect the interests of our country,” Oommen said. “He answered the call.”
“On bad days he was always smiling,” said Roshawn Constantine, a culinary noncommissioned officer with the 369th SB. “It was always a good time when he was around.”
