Powidz, Poland - On October 1, 2022, the first ever Army 10-Miler (ATM) Shadow Run was held in Poland. With 158 runners and over 40 volunteers, the event was a huge success. The first male finisher completed the 10 mile race in 1 hour 2 minutes, and the first female finisher completed the race in 1 hour 17 minutes.

The Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders came to the Shadow Run in Powidz, hosted by Armed Forces Entertainment. They cheered on the runners as they crossed the finish line and provided a high level of energy.

Army helicopters were provided for static displays. The helicopters offered great photo backdrops and participants and volunteers were able to get inside for a closeup view of the cockpit. Following the race, the cheerleaders learned how a chinook helicopter takes flight as a pilot explained the physics of the large aircraft.

The Army’s annual ATM started in 1985 and is held every October in Washington D.C. The event is open to the public and all race proceeds benefit Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) programs. The MWR provides support and leisure services to the U.S. servicememebers and their families.

The official sponsor for the Shadow run is KBR, and for overseas installations and locations only. The Shadow Run is organized through MWR coordinators. Runners receive shirts, medals, plaques for the top three male and top three female finishes, as well as race bibs.

The ATM Shadow Run allows Soldiers to demonstrate their stamina and perseverance. The morale and energy was high on the chilly day in Poland. From the medics providing support at each water point, volunteers handing out water to the runners, and the road guards keeping everyone safe, everyone agrees it was a fun event.
