BALTIMORE – Local recruiters, assigned to Navy Talent Acquisition Group Philadelphia, participated in Maryland Fleet Week and Flyover Baltimore 2022, promoting the Navy and recruiting efforts Sept. 8-10.

For the local recruiting district, Fleet Week kicked off with the oath of enlistment ceremony aboard the historic ship USS Constellation, during which 25 future Sailors raised their right hand and made a commitment to the U.S. Navy on Sept 8. Rear Adm. Nancy Lacore, Commodore, Naval District Washington, served as the enlisting officer, and spoke to future Sailors about her experiences in the service. Following the ceremony, future Sailors experienced retrieving and folding an ensign, and learned about the history of the USS Constellation, the USS Constitution’s sister ship.

Through the weekend, recruiters also activated and manned a Navy Mobile Engagement Vehicle setup at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater, and featured at the Martin State Airport festival an immersive virtual reality experience housed in a massive 18-wheeler truck named “the Nimitz,” which allows participants to experience a virtual reality Navy SEAL mission, piloting a high-speed special warfare combatant craft (SWCC).

“I was excited for the fleet week, and to engage with the community on a personal level, to showcase what the Navy has allowed me to do in my 11 years of service, and what it can offer the next generation of future Sailors,” said Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class Lester Hamilton, a local recruiter from Navy Recruiting Station Towson, Md. “I am glad we were able to reach out as the Navy community liaisons and meet some great people. We were also able to assist in diffusing some of the myths about the Navy life in general, and educate people on what the service could truly do for them.”

Fleet week visitors and guests had the opportunity to learn about the Navy, chat with recruiters about more than 70 enlisted career opportunities and multiple officer programs, participate in the Navy warrior challenge, and learn about current bonuses that amount to $115,000.

“Maryland Fleet Week and Flyover Baltimore was a fantastic display of the Navy at its best,” said Lt. Taylor Anzidei, a medical officer recruiter. “The international relationships formed among Sailors and seamanship displays by all forged memories to last a lifetime. NTAG Philadelphia was truly at its best and, I believe, set the standard for recruiting displays as well as community relations.”

Anzidei also added: “We hope to have gained many valuable leads for future recruitment on both the enlisted and commissioned force of the Navy from the many events we had the honor to be part of during the Maryland Fleet Week.”

Maryland Fleet Week and Flyover is Baltimore's celebration of the sea services and provides an opportunity for the citizens of Maryland and the city of Baltimore to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as see firsthand the latest capabilities of today's maritime services.

NTAG Philadelphia encompasses regions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and West Virginia, providing recruiting services from more than 30 talent acquisition sites, with the combined goal of attracting the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.

With more than 330,000 active duty sailors, 290 deployable ships, more than 3,700 aircraft and dozens of bases in the U.S. and across the globe, America's Navy is the largest, most powerful naval force in the world. The opportunities available in today's Navy are as boundless as the sea itself. To learn more about the opportunities in the Navy visit www.navy.com
