FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – The installation is on a mission to provide top-quality housing for Soldiers and Families, and the community is already seeing results with 170 major home renovations in New Hammond Heights nearly halfway complete.
Seventy-two junior enlisted homes in the community are now fully renovated, and another 50 renovations are underway. Campbell Crossing, the installation’s privatized housing partner, estimates the project will be complete in spring 2023.
Workers are also expected to begin the grading process later this month for the upcoming Erevia Park community. The installation’s newest subdivision is targeted for completion in summer 2024 and will include 200 newly constructed homes for junior enlisted Soldiers and their Families.
“Through our 50-year partnership with the Army, we are committed to providing homes that service members can not only be proud to live in, but that also improve their quality of life,” said Karsten Haake, Campbell Crossing project director.
“The new construction and renovations are designed with our residents in mind and will not only enhance the look and feel of our community, but also increase functionality in our homes to ensure we are meeting the needs of service members and their Families today and in the future,” he said.
Junior enlisted Soldiers are already experiencing those improvements in New Hammond Heights after moving into some of the homes that have been renovated so far.
“The work includes complete replacement of the exterior, living room upgrades, kitchen renovations to increase functionality, a full master bathroom remodel and replacement of interior finishes and appliances,” Haake said. “All windows and appliances throughout will be upgraded to Energy Star for reduction of energy consumption and for the comfort of our Families.”
Erevia Park remains in its early stages with two completed model homes as a proof of concept. The subdivision will offer three- and four-bedroom units focused on functionality, open spaces and energy efficiency.
Future residents can also expect oversized garages, individual driveways, covered patios, eat-in kitchens, integrated technology and extra storage space to accommodate military moves.
“Constructing the model homes has allowed us to physically see how the homes flow and get a feel for room sizes to ensure it meets the needs of our junior enlisted Families,” Haake said. “This has allowed us to work through any changes that may need to be made prior to constructing the full community.”
U.S. Army Garrison-Fort Campbell announced its plans to improve junior enlisted housing in 2020 after the Army approved an initial $87.4 million in funding.
Projects being financed through that investment include the new construction in Erevia Park, renovations in New Hammond Heights and the demolition of 250 outdated homes in LaPointe Village, among other community enhancements over the next five years.
Lendlease, the Army’s privatized housing partner, also negotiated terms with the Army for an additional $235 million investment in Campbell Crossing that was announced in April 2021, putting the housing projects on track to where they stand today.
“Ultimately, we want our residents to have a positive living experience during their time with us,” Haake said. “We are committed to providing safe and healthy homes where our Families can live, work and thrive, and this program is an example of how we continue to proactively do so.”
