FORT HOOD, Texas — Early Thursday morning, the Texas sun shone brightly as distinguished members of the Fort Hood community, Soldiers, and guests welcomed Brig. Gen. Christopher G. Beck during a Phantom Honors ceremony in front of III Armored Corps Headquarters May 26, 2022.
Fort Hood has a time-honored tradition to welcome commanders and their families to the Phantom Warrior team through the Phantom Honors ceremony.
The new deputy commander brings in a wealth of experience to the position. Some of his previous units include 130th Engineer Brigade, 36th Engineer Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, and the Commander and Division Engineer of the Transatlantic Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Most recently, he served as the Commander and Division Engineer of the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Lt. Gen. Pat White, III Corps and Fort Hood commanding general, presided over the ceremony where Beck assumed the responsibility for the corp’s training and operational readiness.
“Team Beck, welcome back to Fort Hood, Texas, and welcome back to the most lethal organization in the world: America’s Hammer” White said.
Having been stationed here in 2005, Beck shared this isn’t his family’s first rodeo at Fort Hood.
“We love the area and we’re happy to be back at the Great Place,” Beck said. “And we’re ready to meet folks, get out, and be part of the community.”
Both natives of Maryland, Beck and his wife, Sally, met when they were 10 years old. Since those initial days of sixth grade, the two have grown together and raised two sons.
In 1993, Beck received his commission from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He holds master’s degrees from the University of Missouri for Science and Technology in Engineering Management, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Structural Engineering and from the U.S. Air Force War College in Strategic Studies.
Following his ceremony, the new Deputy Commanding General of Maneuver shared his primary goal for the coming weeks.
“My biggest focus area is maintaining that level of lethality from a Corps perspective so that we’re able to command and control what we need to,” Beck said.
He further explained as Fort Hood heads into summer, Soldiers are entering an Army-wide permanent change of station season.
“When you look at our divisions and our separate brigades, they’re all hitting home runs every single day,” Beck said. “They’re doing great things with every one of their requirements and capabilities so we’ve just got to stay synchronized throughout all these transitions.”
Beck shared how his experience working in units with multiple organizations has solidified a grounding thought process that allows him to hear all sides of a discussion.
“I will never be the expert of everything this Corps does. Just like in previous jobs, I’m not here as the expert,” Beck said “I’m here as a senior leader, so I’m going to rely on those experts to give me advice, recommendations, and then I’ll make the best decision I can with that information.”
