JOINT BASE CHARLESTON SOUTH CAROLINA – The 315th Airlift Wing hosted a Wing spouses orientation flight May 14 aboard a Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, C-17 Globemaster III here.

The flight gave 29 315th AW spouses the opportunity to get a glimpse of what the military members do every day and to show appreciation for the spouses who support the military every day.

Lt. Col. Travis Wheeler, a 701st Airlift Squadron pilot here, said the flight was a huge success.

“It was great to see the spouses come together and get to experience a flight on a C-17,” said Wheeler. “The aircrew did an amazing job to answer everyone’s questions and give them the best experience possible prior to, during, and after the flight. It was an amazing opportunity for everyone.”

The day began with coffee and donuts and followed by a safety brief and individual boarding passes. Afterwards the spouses got an overview of the preflight check process and weather briefings before they boarded a bus to take them to the flight line.

According to Cynthia Mounts, the wife of Capt. Jeff Mounts, a 315th Aeromedical Evacuation flight nurse, the flight was the opportunity of a lifetime.

“Flying on the C-17 was absolutely amazing!” she said. “I have always loved flying, but this C-17 flight was a different and incredible experience. All of the Air Force flight members were very kind and checked on everyone to make sure we were doing well. I really appreciate the Air Force providing this opportunity for spouses and allowing us to see where our spouses work and what they experience.”

“It’s our hope to continue this process yearly,” said Wheeler. “We want to continue to showcase the efforts of our Airmen and so that more spouses are able to see what their significant others do to support the Air Force on a daily basis.”
