NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y., (04 May 2022) – Fifty New York Air National Guard non-commissioned officers from across New York spent April 24-29 learning how to lead their Airmen better at a professional development seminar led by State Command Chief Master
Sgt. Denny Richardson and hosted by the 107th Attack Wing.

The Airmen learned more about mission briefs, health and wellness for Airmen, leadership and enlisted force development during the week-long class.

“Professional development is an important part in how we connect and build leaders for tomorrow’s challenges”, Richardson said.

“The Oath of Enlistment, The Airman’s Creed, and our Air Force Core Values are our basic foundational documents that gives us our “why” and “purpose” for serving”, Richardson added. “It is imperative that each member continue to realize the importance of what we do as Citizen
Airmen, so allowing them the time to focus and reflect during this event was our main objective”.

Richardson was joined by other speakers including Brigadier General Denise O’Donnell, the newly appointed commander of the New York Air National Guard, who took the opportunity to convey her vision, priorities, and connect with Airmen.

“The best part of my job is connecting and learning from our Airmen. This type of professional development directly supports my priorities– safety, strength, and readiness”, said Donnell.

The seminar also partnered with some of the many historical and cultural organizations throughout the Buffalo/ Niagara region. Including the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad, tours of Forest Lawn Cemetery and Old Fort Niagara, and a re-enlistment aboard the USS Little Rock, Buffalo Naval Park.

“The while seminar was great; the speakers were fantastic and shared their own personal experiences to really connect with and engage us”, said Staff Sergeant Yvonne Thorpe of the 107 th Attack Wing. “I think we all learned new ways to take better care of our Airmen back home”.

“The 107th team did an incredible job of hosting the New York State professional development seminar”, said 107 th Attack Wing Commander Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Carlson. “Coordination for events such as this takes a significant amount of work; the team rose to the challenge, allowing our fellow service members to continue to grow, develop, and advance”.
