FORT KNOX, Ky. – An annual tradition returned to Fort Knox this week following a several-year absence.

A group of residents in the post’s historic district opened their doors to the public for the holiday Tour of Homes Dec. 9. According to volunteer spouse Karmin Solomon, a great deal went into the planning for this event.

“We had to figure out the timing, and how many people can be on each tour to keep it safe and as distanced as it can be,” said Solomon. “Then we had to really get organized. We have this down to how long it should take to walk to each house so we don’t overlap and so people can view the tree and leaf auction.

In addition to the tour, the event included numerous decorated wreaths and Christmas trees up for auction. Each had different looks and types of decorations, to include one offering a personal painting by a Fort Knox spouse and another highlighting the history of Fort Knox.

The tour featured seven homes in the Clarke neighborhood decorated for the holidays, to include Quarters 1, where the Main Post Chapel Orchestra performed live holiday music on the porch. Participants met at the Saber & Quill, where volunteer guides proceeded to lead ticket holders around the neighborhood and through each of the homes.

A podcast was also created to provide those on the tour with a historical background of each house and share notable people who lived in them.

All proceeds from the event and the auction will go toward scholarships and grants for military families.
