Wiesbaden community remembers single service members through holidays

WIESBADEN, Germany – The U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden community is ensuring single service members staying here during the holidays have some local events and resources they can participate in.

The Religious Support Office provided a ‘Seoul’ Food for the Single Soldier luncheon, Dec. 7 at the Clay Kaserne Chapel that concentrated on providing spiritual guidance and help to the service members.

Capt. Luke Heibel, 66th Military Intelligence Chaplain, welcomed the single service members as they came into the downstairs area of the Clay Chapel. “We don’t do this often, but we do want the single service members to know we are here for them,” he said.

The Chapel provided a free luncheon and a place where the service members could gather for fellowship. The chapel also provided an area that service members could request prayers.

The Wiesbaden Community Spouses Club were on hand during the luncheon to give the service members home-baked cookies to go with their meal.

“It is a joy to be able to do this,” said Brandy Schraeder, the club’s chair. “They are so young and they enjoy this so much. We enjoy doing this too.”

In addition, the United Services Organization is gearing up for their single Service Member Secret Santa, when gift bags will be distributed to the barracks Dec. 22 for any single service member staying here over the holidays.

Carmen Blanco Perez, the Wiesbaden USO center manager, explained that this is one of their main Christmas events.
