Approximately sixty 910th Security Forces Squadron members from Youngstown Air Reserve Station participated in Defender Next training Nov. 6, 2021, at Camp James A. Garfield, Ohio. The purpose of Defender Next training is for Air Force Reserve security forces members to receive real-world training based on what they might experience in a combat environment.
“The mission and vision of the Air Force includes working hand-in-hand with joint forces in a combined effort,” said Master Sgt. Chad Schlimm, the unit training manager for the 910th Security Forces Squadron at YARS.
To do that, YARS incorporated the skills of the Ohio Army National Guard, specifically, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment, based out of North Canton, Ohio. 910th SFS members loaded onto two OHARNG CH-46 Chinook helicopters to engage in force-on-force, land navigation and gear and personnel recovery mission training.
Schlimm said that Reserve Citizen Airmen were engaged by opposition forces promptly after landing in Camp Garfield and sustained hostility during recovery and land navigation portions of their training.
By practicing how the Air Force intends to play during wartime, Reserve Citizen Airmen can remain combat ready now for tomorrow’s fight
