WIESBADEN, Germany – The U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden Directorate of Emergency Services will renew their efforts in ensuring vehicles are not parking illegally in assigned parking spots around the post, effective Dec. 1.
The DES has received a noticeable increase in complaints that parking areas for handicapped, fire lane, reserved and official vehicles are being used by those not authorized for them. Additionally, vehicles have been found to be utilizing customer service parking areas longer than they should. In response, Lt. Col. Jon Jackson, the Director of Emergency Services, is utilizing his department’s resources to provide increased attention on these areas.
“We’ve discovered that the community are not using the parking garages and instead parking their cars improperly around the garrison,” said Jackson. “Most importantly, if you are utilizing any customer service parking area, check the signs for how long you can park there and use your parking placard.”
For the past month, DES has informed the community that the Military Police will begin enforcing the parking space usage by holding drivers accountable when they abuse the use of parking spaces.
To avoid getting a ticket and to keep driving privileges in good standing, do not park in reserved spots for GO/SES/official vehicles or handicap spaces unless authorized and pay attention to timed parking spaces and ensure you properly utilize your parking placard.
DES is implementing a new parking ticket structure that the office hopes will cut down the abuse. Repeat offenders will incur driving privilege suspensions if enough tickets are received within a 12-month period.
