Elon, N.C. – (November 9, 2021) – Commander Ian Lopez, Executive Officer of Navy Talent Acquisition
Group (NTAG) Carolina, conducted Western Alamance High Schools, Navy Junior Reserve Officer
Training Corps (NJROTC) Annual Military Inspection. During the inspection, Lopez inspected
the cadets Navy Service Uniforms as well as their basic military knowledge.
Upon arrival at Western Alamance High School, Lopez was greeted by Trace Rucart, a senior and the units Commanding Officer, and Retired Master Chief Petty Officer Dirk Butler, who is the Naval Science Instructor for the program.
Butler explained how proud he is of the NJROTC cadet program at Western
Alamance High School. He believes that the NJROTC is important and explains that it improves the cadets
confidence and allows them to be proud of the things they accomplish, no matter how big or small, and prepares them
for leadership roles. Lopez
was also a cadet in high school agreed with Butler.
“The skills that JROTC cadets learn as part of the program they can take with them anywhere, whether
it’s joining the military, going to college, or joining the workforce after school.” Said Lopez.
The inspection ended with cadet awards and a Change-of-Command. Lopez congratulated Butler on having such a great group of cadets and continued with how the cadets should be
proud of themselves and how proud they make others around them.
“I allow and expect the students to make mistakes, we want them to make mistakes so we can teach
them and help with making them better and that’s what this program is all about and why I think these
cadets are so great at what they do here and outside of school.” said Butler.
Navy Recruiting Command consists of a command headquarters, two Navy Recruiting Regions, and 26 Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 815 recruiting stations across the world. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America's Navy.
