Units throughout the 3rd Infantry Division, and other supporting tenant units, participated in competitions and sporting events to celebrate Marne Week on Nov. 15-19 on Fort Stewart, Georgia, in hopes of winning the Marne Cup.
During Marne Week, Soldiers participated in sporting events and combat focused competitions to build team cohesion and competitive spirit. Some of the events included softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, tug-of-war, swimming, combatives, functional fitness and the Marne Mudder. The teams all competed for the chance to win the Marne Cup. Division officials asserted that competition events tested the grit and toughness of Dogface Soldiers, foster individual and unit readiness and esprit de corps, and are a fundamental part of the Marne Week celebration.
The event kicked off with a Division run. Then followed with 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team winning the 10-mile run and 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 2nd ABCT winning the 5-mile run.
The 2nd Battalion, 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade won ultimate frisbee, while 2nd ABCT won spouse kickball.
Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion tied with 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 2nd ABCT soccer and 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st ABCT won dominoes, tug-of-war and functional fitness.
Later in the week, 92nd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division Artillery took first in softball, and 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st ABCT won bowling.
Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Sustaiment Brigade won Bunko. The 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 2nd ABCT won combatives and spades, while 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 1st ABCT took first place in basketball and boxing.
The 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Regiment, 1st ABCT, won the Army Special Operations Forces (ARSOF) Challenge and flag football. The 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment won golf, dodgeball, the swimming relay and took first place in volleyball.
Throughout Marne Week, Soldiers put in their best efforts and remained dedicated and motivated to win the Marne Cup. In the end, it was 2nd ABCT who took home the Marne Cup with a total of 5,725 points.
The 1st ABCT came in 2nd with a total of 4,975 points and 3rd CAB fell in 3rd place with 1,800 points.
