SAN DIEGO – Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded I.E.-Pacific Inc. a $19.8 million task order, Nov. 10 in San Diego, for a design-build project to repair and renovate a Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) building at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Pendleton.
“Award of this whole building repair and renovation project will provide the much needed critical repairs and upgrades to meet the current building, life and safety codes as well as provide a modernized, safe, healthy and comfortable living quarters to support the Marines and their mission,” said Elizabeth Puorro, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project. “This is a special thank you to the Camp Pendleton Base Public Works Department and NAVFAC Southwest team for all of their hard work and efforts to make it possible to successfully award this project. Our NAVFAC Southwest team is looking forward to working with our contractor partner I.E.-Pacific Inc. on the successful execution and completion of this project.”
I.E.-Pacific Inc. is scheduled to complete design and full building repair of an 89,369 square foot BEQ by summer 2023. The four-story concrete masonry unit (CMU) structure, built in 2000, is located in the Las Pulgas area (43 Area) and houses approximately 400 personnel serving in the 11th Marine Regiment under the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. The project will replace outdated building systems, deteriorating components, and bring the building up to current seismic codes and life safety standards. The work will include general repair of accumulated wear and tear along with upgrades to replace plumbing systems and fixtures, electrical and mechanical systems, windows, doors, locks, lighting, flooring and general architectural finishes, roof repairs, and improvements to common spaces. Area of work includes billeting rooms, administrative spaces, lounge and multi-purpose rooms, duty rooms, laundry rooms, electrical and mechanical rooms and all other support spaces. In addition, approximately four billeting rooms will be converted into Architectural Barriers Act and Americans with Disabilities Act accessible and adaptable rooms.
”This is the first major repair of this barracks since it began housing Marines back in 2000,” stated Cmdr. Richard Contreras, NAVFAC Southwest assistant operations officer. Our mission is to move smartly into design and conduct repairs with the contractor to ultimately improve the standard of living for the 11th Marines that call this Las Pulgas BEQ home.”
The task order is part of a small business multiple award construction contract. I.E.-Pacific Inc. was one of multiple companies to submit proposals for the task order. NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity.
MCB Camp Pendleton is located in northern San Diego County, Calif., approximately 38 miles north of downtown San Diego. MCB Camp Pendleton’s mission is to operate a training base that promotes the combat readiness of the Operating Forces and the mission of other tenant commands by providing training opportunities, facilities, services and support responsive to the needs of Marines, Sailors and their families. The installation is the Marine Corps' largest West Coast expeditionary training facility, encompassing more than 125,000 acres of Southern California terrain.
