Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point Color Guard participated at the 246th Marine Corps Birthday Ball held by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the U.S. Post 7315 in Havelock, North Carolina, Nov. 10, 2021.

The VFW is a nonprofit veteran’s organization composed of eligible veterans, including active, retired, and reserve service members who fought in a foreign war. Together with MCAS Cherry Point they plan events for veterans, retired, and active duty service members.

The VFW’s event followed traditional format by having a social hour, reading of the birthday message, Presentation of Colors, cake cutting ceremony, and dance.

The MCAS Cherry Point Color Guard presents the National Flag and the Marine Corps Colors at ceremonies in order to render appropriate military honors and to celebrate the Marine Corps' renowned warfighting history.
“This is my second year on color guard and it is an honor to be able to represent Cherry Point in the best possible way,” said U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Lisette Granada, Color Guard sergeant. “We always feel welcomed and they treat us like family, so we are happy to be here and offer support.”

Barbara Chance, Post 7315 commander and district forward commander for VFW, spoke about how MCAS Cherry Point and VFW have a supportive relationship and coordinate to make events possible.

“We always receive great support from the installation,” Chance said. “We often send invites to the personnel. We love having them at our events. It’s a great time to work with personnel on Cherry Point. The veterans here love when the volunteers come, because it brings them back to their days in the service. It’s a great community.”
