ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England – Airmen from the 494th Fighter Squadron returned from an eight-month long deployment to an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, Oct. 26-Nov. 1, 2021.

Deployed as the 494th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron at the 332nd Expeditionary Wing, the Panthers generated over 1,900 sorties and over 8,400 hours of combat operations while in theater.

“The Airmen we had deployed with us handled the mission with professionalism, humility and a credibility that only comes through being hardened through the fire,” said Lt. Col. Jonathan Hutto, 494th FS commander. “They believed in the mission and that gave them a purpose and drive to not only complete the mission, but excel at it.”

While conducting operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the Panthers simultaneously flew their F-15E Strike Eagles in support of Operation Final Countdown and Operation Allies Welcome.

The squadron prepared a team and forward deployed to a separate location to support one of the largest airlifts in history, OAW, in less than 24 hours of receiving the call requesting their support.

“We’re happy to welcome home some of America’s finest after being deployed for many, many months,” said Col. Jason Camilletti, 48th Fighter Wing commander. “The men and women that comprised the 494th FS aviation package—our aviators, maintainers, and support airmen—demonstrated once again that the Liberty Wing is always ready to own the skies! Kudos to them for delivering combat air power when and where our nation needed it!”
