MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – Brigadier Gen. Darren Cole, Air Mobility Command director of logistics, engineering, and force protection, and his team from Scott Air Force Base, Ill. visited team McConnell Oct. 20-22, 2021. Cole toured facilities, observing the infrastructure and various ways in which McConnell’s Airmen directly impact AMC’s mission to provide rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America’s Armed Forces.

“Brigadier Gen. Darren Cole is responsible for the policy guidance, training, and resources for total force logistics,” said Col. Emily Farkas, 22nd Maintenance Group commander. “The purpose of his visit is to get familiarization with the KC-46A Pegasus and KC-135 Stratotanker missions at McConnell, as well as, gain an understanding of any challenges or issues that require advocacy for the logistic, civil engineering and force protection personnel.”

As director, Cole is responsible for the support of more than 49,000 personnel. He’s also responsible for 1,074 aircraft at 10 major installations. During his time at McConnell, he recognized 11 Airmen for their performance and devotion to the Wing in continuing the mission.

“McConnell has much to gain from having Cole visiting our facilities, getting to understand our mission and challenges but most importantly getting the incredible opportunity to meet our Airmen,” said Farkas. “It is important for our senior leaders to remain engaged with the field units they serve. More specifically, providing our command awareness of the KC-46 transition plan from KC-135 without losing combat capability. Additionally, highlighting the challenges with KC-46 sustainment.”

This Being Coles’ visit to his first AMC base in his new position, allowed him to establish himself and understanding of the infrastructure and mission of McConnell as well as get a face-to-face talk with Airmen directly executing AMC’s mission.
