AEGIS ASHORE ROMANIA (September 10, 2021) – Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) recently completed a successful Ballistic Missile Defense Readiness Assessment (BMDRA) at the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System (AAMDS) Romania facility.

Aegis Ashore is the land-based component of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) System, which provides missile defense against short and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. To conduct a Readiness Assessment, the team must execute a successful BMD Systems Operability Test, a simulated exercise that assessed Aegis Ashore’s ability to complete its mission of ballistic missile defense.

“It's incredible to witness how much FDRMC is able to do in such a short time. It's a big effort with many entities coming together and working to get it done right. FDRMC has an amazing talent pool,” said Cmdr. Michael Dwan, commanding officer AAMDS Romania. “Our Navy is in excellent hands.”

AAMDS Romania is the first operational Ballistic Missile Defense shore site in the world and maintaining it is an important part of the FDRMC mission. To do so, FDRMC conducted preparatory maintenance on the Missile Defense System and subsequently assessed numerous individual systems, validating their material and operational readiness.

With support from all three FDRMC Detachments, the assessment was completed on time with zero major discrepancies due to the impressive level of cooperation and teamwork between all the stakeholders.

“The assessment director and entire project team conducted a thorough assessment with a high level of detail, which ensured the assessment was a success. The BMDRA for Aegis Ashore is a testament to the focus and commitment of the FDRMC Team to increasing our capability, capacity and on-time delivery,” said Captain Brian Karosich, commanding officer, FDRMC.

FDRMC provides fleet technical assistance, voyage repair, assessments, intermediate and depot level maintenance, and diving and salvage to Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Europe and the Middle East and for Deployed ships in the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.
