The submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40), returned to Apra Harbor, Guam, from sea trials and pre-deployment crew training, Oct. 5.

Sea trials is required by maintenance policies and directives, to certify the completion of ship’s maintenance and modernization.

The crew, comprising uniformed Sailors and Military Sealift Command civilian mariners, participated in various events and operations at sea to test the readiness of the ship.

“Our crew's performance was exceptional,” said Capt. Albert Alarcon, Frank Cable’s commanding officer. “Their energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to each other and our mission resonated on the deckplates as we rapidly adjusted to our at-sea routines and carried forward our training efforts over the past year. It's both humbling and inspiring to see our Sailors and civilian mariners excel together every day.”

After getting underway, the crew participated in abandon ship drills, man overboard drills, engineering exercises, damage control training and countermeasure wash-down testing. Staff members from Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC) and Military Sealift Command (MSC) evaluated the crew's performance.

“We showed a lot of progression for our first underway in a long time,” said Damage Controlman 1st Class Kendreca Perkins. “This was the first time a lot of these Sailors got underway in the Navy. I was really proud of them on how they handled so many drills each day.”

The Antiterrorism Training Team ran force protection drills with multiple departments, from the MSC bridge crew to the weapons department.

“When we conducted these cascading drill sets, we were really able to highlight the outstanding performance of our crew as a fully cohesive unit,” said Senior Chief Master-at-Arms Shawn Stewart, Frank Cable’s Antiterrorism Training Team Leader. “It was great to see the Frank Cable team working together during and successfully combatting damage control casualties and anti-terrorism force protection events.”

Frank Cable, forward-deployed to the island of Guam, repairs, rearms, and reprovisions submarines and surface vessels in the Indo-Pacific region. For more information about Frank Cable visit our Facebook page www.facebook.com/FrankCableAS40.
