The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Family Readiness Group (FRG) coordinated a back to school drive that will provide over 100 backpacks full of school supplies and extra school supplies to CRDAMC military members, staff and the surrounding community upon its completion 6 Aug.
The back to school program has been around for about five years and helps staff members during the peak permanent change of station summer season according to Mrs. Lori Carpenter, CRDAMC Family Readiness Support Assistant. The program helps absorb some of the expense that the parents have during the high volume turn over time for the hospital commented Carpenter.
“That’s one less thing they have to worry about when they are getting theirs kiddos settled into a new home and a new school district,” she said.
The CRDAMC FRG has helped coordinate many different events like this one over the years, but staff and family member volunteers have provide many hours of their very busy days to make these events possible.
“We have a great team of volunteers that help us with every event and we really appreciate every single one of them,” said Carpenter.
Carpenter focuses on connecting CRDAMC Soldiers and their family members to the many resources provided to them on Fort Hood.
“A huge part of my job is to make sure that our families have the tools to succeed in the military,” said Carpenter. “My goal is to make sure that these folks get all of that information and that they know who to contact if they have any questions.”
Carpenter encourages Soldiers and family members to connect with the FRG and give them a chance to help with the support it provides.
“We want your feedback, we want to know what works for you guys, we are here to help you,” said Carpenter.
