GRAFENWOEHR, Germany – In partnership with U.S. Army Medical Department Activity Bavaria Preventive Medicine department and its Army health clinics within the Bavarian footprint, U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria is sponsoring its inaugural Community Health & Wellness Fair this month in August.

Two health and wellness fair events are scheduled.

The first event is Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, at the Community Activity Center, Building 40, Hohenfels Training Area. Activities begin at 11 a.m. and last until 3 p.m.

The second event is Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at the Wild B.O.A.R. Outdoor Recreational Complex, Grafenwoehr Training Area, August 21, 2021, and it is scheduled to last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Both events are open to the entire USAG Bavaria military community.

The purpose of the inaugural Community Health and Wellness Fair is to:

    · Provide a place to welcome new members to the USAG Bavaria military community.

    · Serve as a vessel to provide information on a variety of healthy lifestyle choices.

    · Provide an opportunity for interactive and family oriented fun.

The term wellness is defined as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity,” according to the World Health Organization, or WHO. For the past year the USAG Bavaria military community has been impacted greatly by the COVID-19 global pandemic. Long lasting restrictions enacted by the host nation’s government has put limitations on an individual’s sense of autonomy and has challenged the resiliency of the garrison’s Soldiers, Families, and Civilians.

As COVID-19 restrictions have begun to loosen, USAG Bavaria can begin to strengthen community cohesiveness safely. The health and wellness fair will provide fun and informative events for the community to participate in, while covering the eight dimensions of wellness: emotional/mental, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual.

By taking a cohesive community approach to prioritizing the wellness of individuals, USAG Bavaria is also prioritizing the wellness of its entire community.

Various units and community organizations will have booths highlighting various initiatives and providing interactive activities.

There will be blood pressure screenings, patient education, anti-smoking events, stress management, a walk & run course, nutrition and obesity displays, physical fitness activities such as yoga, Zumba, and functional fitness demonstrations.

There will be children events, fun activities such as face painting, a dunk tank, and archery demonstrations.

COVID-19 vaccinations will also be provided at the Community Health and Wellness Fair.

In case of inclement weather Aug. 21, activities will be move from the Wild B.O.A.R. Outdoor Recreational Complex to the Tower Barracks Gymnasium.
