U.S. Army Garrison - Fort Detrick

The Fort Detrick U.S. Army Garrison conducted a Change of Command ceremony July 15, 2021, at the Fort Detrick Auditorium.
Col. Dexter Nunnally relinquished command to Col. Danford Bryant II during a ceremony attended by distinguished guests, general officers, community leaders, fellow Soldiers, family members, and the Fort Detrick community.
Davis D. Tindoll, Jr., director of Sustainment, U.S. Army Installation Management Command, served as the reviewing officer for the ceremony and applauded Nunnally for his leadership and commitment to the Fort Detrick community.
“Dex proved himself a gifted leader in today’s uncertain environment where others saw challenges, he saw opportunity. Every day, he displayed the Warrior Ethos of duty, loyalty, honor, and selfless services as he provided unwavering support to the senior command and mission partners,” said Tindoll. “Through his effective leadership and high-level agility, Dex was able to identify new opportunities and solve some very complex issues. He had a vision of improvement and didn’t cower at the obstacles. He postured the Garrison for renewed success, promoting the organization to grow efficiency.”
During his address to incoming commander Col. Danford Bryant II, Tindoll expressed his confidence in Bryant to move the Fort Detrick USAG in the right direction.
Nunnally thanked those in attendance, his family, and the Garrison workforce for their continued support and spoke of his two years at the Garrison by saying at first he was unsure, but learned a lot.
“When I first took over back in July 2019, I was probably thinking the same thing Dan is thinking right now; wow. This is interesting, and I don’t know what I’m doing. And now, after two years, I can honestly say I still don’t know what I’m doing but I had a great team that helped keep me out of trouble.”
Incoming commander Col. Danford Bryant II briefly addressed the crowd, thanking his family and those in attendance.
“Thank you Dex, and the entire Garrison team, for all the work that you have done and continue to do for this, your organization, this post, and our Army. I look forward to being a member of this amazing organization.”
Bryant most recently served as the Liaison Officer to the Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute for the U.S. Army Special Operations Center of Excellence.

Bryant is a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Texas State University ROTC program and attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Simultaneously, he was selected for and attended the USASOC-sponsored Interagency Studies Program at the School for Global and International Studies, University of Kansas – Lawrence.
The ceremony concluded with a reception welcoming the incoming commander, and a receiving line wishing the Nunnally family best of luck on their new assignment.
