Georgia Army National Guardsmen with the Marietta-based 110th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and the 122nd Tactical Support Detachment participated in Exercise Agile Spirit 21 Opening Ceremony at Senaki Air Base in the country of Georgia on July 26, 2021.

The purpose of the exercise is to assure sustainment for the United States, Georgian Armed Forces and regional partner interoperability in peacekeeping and support operations.

AgS21 is a joint multinational exercise under the U.S. European Command's Joint Exercise Program at the Vaziani Training Area, Orpholo, and Senaki Air Base. July 26-Aug. 6. AgS21 promotes readiness, partnerships, interoperability, and theatre operations.

"Many of the units present here have worked together before either in training or deployed environments, said Col. Kris Marshall, the co-exercise director of Ags21. "The ability to reconnect and continue to build readiness and strengthen the relationships will hone our skills to work as part of a coalition."

Approximately 2,800 total military personnel from 15 allied and partner nations will participate in AgS21. About 800 are U.S. service members, while an estimated 1,950 personnel hail from allied and partner countries. This year, the exercise will begin its tenth iteration.

Military personnel in AgS21 will conduct a simulated brigade-level command post exercise, a computer-assisted exercise, and a battalion-level Combined Level Fire Exercise and a Field Training Exercise executed in multiple locations within Georgia.

Agile Spirit is the second overseas training exercise for Georgia Army National Guardsmen this year. Last month units from the Macon-based 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and the Fort Benning-based 648th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade conducted African Lion 21 in Morocco, Africa.

"I think the best benefit of our Guardsmen participating in Agile Spirit 21 is the opportunity to work side by side with their peers from allied nations," said Sgt. Maj. Steven Phoenix, senior enlisted advisor, the 110th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Senior Enlisted Advisor. "I think that it's a huge benefit to our Soldiers because they're excited and motivated every single day."
