HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. – Air Force Special Operations Command Air Commandos and aircraft will be participating in the world’s largest airshow, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021, taking place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 26 – Aug. 1, 2021.
The Oshkosh Air Show, or Oshkosh, is an annual air show held at Wittman Regional Airport and Pioneer Airport and hosts more than 10,000 aircraft and attracts more than 650,000 spectators and aviation enthusiasts.
“Even those who have a solid familiarity with the U.S. Air Force often know little about its special operations units and the important mission they fulfill,” said Rick Larsen, EAA’s vice president of communities and member programming. “So we want to bring some visibility to that at Oshkosh in 2021.
“The Air Force has been extremely cooperative through the years at showcasing its remarkable people and aircraft at AirVenture, and we look forward to discovering even more this year.”
Along with aerial demonstrations, aircraft tours and presentations by Air Commandos, AFSOC will be featuring a gunship legacy flight which include an AC-47 Spooky and an AC-130J Ghostrider. The AC-47 belongs to the American Flight Museum in Topeka, Kansas and was restored as John Levitow’s Medal of Honor aircraft.
“We’re excited to highlight specialized airpower at the nation’s largest airshow, but it’s the people flying these aircraft that provide our value to the Nation,” said Lt. Gen. Jim Slife, commander of AFSOC. “The 20,000 innovative problem solvers in this command are exactly what we need to maintain our competitive advantage in the future and I’m proud to showcase them at Oshkosh.”
EAA AirVenture is implementing several COVID-19 safety protocols including encouraging increased physical distancing in all areas, adding a significant number of sanitizing facilities and working with industry-leading companies for continual disinfection throughout the grounds.
